Andrey Moguchy

Born in 1961 in Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg)

In 1984 hе had been first time graduated in Leningrad Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation. Later in 1984 he had finished Leningrad Institute of Culture (on a speciality of stage direction and actor's skill)

In 1989 Andrey Moguchy founded an independent theatrical group Formalny theatre.

During  90’s  Andrey Moguchy was producing Formalny performances such as a “La Cantatrice Chauve” by Eugène Ionesco,  “Peterburg” by Andrey Beliy, “Two Sisters’  by Ivan Turgenev. With street performance  “Orlando Furioso" by the L.udovico Ariosto’s novel, Formalny theatre toured all over the Europe. But among  others the most considerable project of that time was, perhaps, the “School for Fools” based on the novel by Sasha Sokolov. It took a Fringe First Award on the Edinburgh Fringe, was awarded to Grand-Prix of BITEF (Belgrade International Theatre Festival) and Golden Mask of Russian Festival of  Performing Arts Golden Mask.

Moguchy also taught and gave master classes at Die Etage (Berlin 1995 -97),  Wannsee Forum (Berlin 1997), Baltic Circle (Helsinki, 2000), Theatre Academy Helsinki (Helsinki, 2010).

In 00’s in Formalny theatre he directed:

“Between Dog and Wolf” illustrations to the novel by Sasha Sokolov. This performance was supported by ACR (Academy of Russian Culture, Nice, France) and it’s premiere took place on Festival of Russian Art in Nice, France, where it was awarded to the Grand Prix of the Festival;

“The Gardeners” by Maxim Isaev. This performance was supported by Baltic Circle Festival, Committee for Culture of  St.Petersburg, Alexandrinsky theatre and AKHE theatre.

At the same time, in ’00 Moguchy directed performances for other theatres:

“The Play Which not Exists” and “DK Lamanchesky” for Baltic House theatre (St.Petersburg),

“PRO Turandot” and “It’s not Hamlet” for Priut Komedianta (“Comedian’s shelter”) theatre (St.Petersburg)

In collaboration with Mariinsky theatre Andrey Moguchy directed an opera “Boris Godunov” on Sobornaya square in Moscow, Kremlin and created a mono-performance for prima ballerina Diana Vishneva “Silenzio”.

In Teatr Dramatyczny (Warsaw, Poland) Moguchy directed “Boris Godunov”, performance based on play by Alexander Pushkin and opera by Modest Musorgsky.

Also he produced circus-theatrical show “Krakatuk”, directed the 250th anniversary celebration of the Alexandrinsky theatre, the opening-closing ceremonies of the National Award “Golden Mask” and “The Leningrad” band and Oleg Kravaychuk’s concerts.

From 2004  Andrey Moguchy also works as a director in the Alexandrinsky theatre, where he already have produced a few plays: “Peterburg” by A. Beliy (It was played in the yard of the Engineering Castle in St. Petersburg), “Ivany” based on the novels by N.Gogol and “Izotov” by young Russian author M.Durnenkov.

Andrey Moguchy was awarded: Fringe First of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Grand-Prix of BITEF (Belgrade International Theatre Festival); five times  - the National Award “Golden Mask”, twice -  the highest St.Petersburg Award  “Golden Soffit”

In 2007 by the request of President of Russia Andrey Moguchy was awarded by the Medal «For merits for Fatherland» II class
